About a month ago, I won my first vintage suit from eBay. Thread Here

Since then I've been on the search for a new hat, tie, shoes, the whole works to put together the perfect outfit. I haven't finished yet, but I have just gotten my first fur felt hat yesterday, and have the suit and shoes. I am still on the look out for the perfect tie, and perhaps matching pocket square. I'm hoping to find everything I want. It's not the best outfit, mind you, but it's the first authentic one I have. I hope to have many more in the future. I'll take some photos soon. :D

Until then

I think the matching tie and pocket square is a bit tacky, to be perfectly honest. You'd do better using something that picks up some colours of the tie, or just a simple white linen. Just my two cents...

If you believe Arrow matching the shirt, tie and pocket square is the way to go.

That's not matching. That's coordinating, and there's a difference. When the tie and pocket square match, they're the same color and the same pattern. They look like they've been cut from the same cloth (and in most cases, probably have).

When the tie and the pocket square (and the shirt, in this case) coordinate, they may share colors (or not), the patterns may resemble one another (or not), but they aren't identical. They complement one another, they don't duplicate one another. This is preferable, and Arrow gives good advice. You should never look as though you cut off a bit of your shirt or your tie and shoved it in your pocket.

The only things that should match in a man's outfit are his two socks (with each other), his two shoes (with each other), and perhaps his cufflinks (with each other).

I have a few of my grandfather's white linen pocket squares now. I can post a photo of what it looks like with one of those in the pocket. There isn't much of a difference, even if they are different colors.
