I have a question for you. I found a link on here that showed how to cut the sweatband for installation. It was cut on an angle. Maybe like 20 degrees. I have looked and cant find that thread. Could someone point me in the right direction. With this info I can get it in and post some pic of my newly made Fedora.

Thanks

I can give you a little help. Go to the hats main page and there is a sticky that says "Start here - Links to important Hat Forum Threads". Go to making a new hat. I believe they show cutting and installing the sweat band. Hope this helps and welcome to the lounge.:)

One of the best kept secrets on the Lounge is that we encourage new members to use the search function and resurrect old threads when there's an existing thread in the archives already!

No way you'd know that of course, so I'm taking it upon myself. Welcome!!

I have to say this site is GREAT! I am a member on a few other forums and all search a little different. I did do a search one time and found what I was looking for. I should have bookedmarked it.......and when I searched again I came up empty.

The knowledge on here is amazing...I just wish I could find some nice leather sweats somewhere. I am not to impressed with the ones I have been getting.

Will post pics soon.

Welcome!

Yeah, you need to cut the sweatband ends at an angle so when the ends are joined it 'bells' out at the bottom (part that is stitched to hat) and is smaller at the top (open edge further into the crown). Think in terms of the cranium not being a cylinder but rather a sphere, y'know?

Don't overdo it though and even it out on both ends but don't double the angle by cutting them both too much.

G'luck!

You guys are great! Thanks a bunch. I did cut my new band at an angle and all worked out great....now its getting the stitching down on the stitching fin that is the challenge. I am a great sewer on a machine or by hand....but that is so awkward. I guess because the band I have has a plastic sewing fin...and it wants to go every way but flat. I think I will get it all figured out soon. Cant wait to post some pics
