New GRE test plans cancelled

Nothing vintage, just a Public Service Announcement for other folks who like myself might have their head in the sand except for going between dayjob, night studies, & the lounge...

If you were like me, rushing to study for the GRE so you could take it at least once before they rolled out major, potentially-questionable-sounding changes they had planned this fall...

they've been cancelled (at least for now).

hmmm, i still don't quite understand what the changes were going to be. Testing someone's ability to identify antonyms might seem useless, but it gives a good indication of English ability.

Certainly for the basic science graduates, critical reading test on the GRE would be very helpful. As it is, graduate programs are now picking up the pieces of undergraduate degree holders who have no training in critical reading.

I think the GRE is good as it is - fit for purpose, as they say. An aptitude test which covers most of what you'll encounter at graduate school.

This is one test that I'm actually not studying for, whew! But, I wish you all the best of luck when you take it
