This is the last hat I plan on buying for awhile. It's a little moth bitten, but they are mostly tiny and not very noticible. And I definatley need to do something about the bash. I think this hat will be my beater once it cools off.

I noticed in the Borsalino liner dating thread this design was not dated.

A grande luxe 5 X Borsalino from the 40s or 50s
with a real silk satin lining and distinctive hat band
in apparently mint condition is your beater?

I want to see the rest of your hats.

I would say mid to later fifties with the reeded sweatband. The liner with the "new" (for that time) plastic topper makes it a higher end model. Then there is that 5X and made for the European market thing going on there.
Definitely not much of a beater to me. Looks good enough to be an everyday hat to me. :D

Regards,

J

OK, beater was a little strong. This will be an everyday hat that I won't mind getting rained on. In fact after reading some of the other threads lately I'm hoping a good soaking will help with the moth bites.

I guess this would be the nicest felt hat I own. And while there are quite a few moth bites the worst ones are only about 2mm. This weekend I may try my first hand bash job.
