New Akubra Squatter

Just got a new Akubra Squatter and I find that this is a really well made hat for a wonderful price. It is my first open crowned hat and I must say I did a pretty good job at bashing it to my preference. This is my second Akubra. My other one is a Banjo Paterson that is of Heritage Quality. That hat is soft and fits like a custom job. This Squatter is Imperial Quality and I do see and feel a difference. It fits and feels great but not as great as the B.P. For the price, I can say that I have paid more for hats of less quality. I know that most people here know how nice these hats are but if you don't own an Akubra, you are missing out on a great hat at a great price. I just wish I could try on a Federation before purchasing it. I think I am hooked.

The following are some pictures of an Akubra Squatter hat that were mailed to me by an Australian mail order company (illustrating how one might make the "open crown" version a bit more Indiana Jones-ish). I can't see that they would object to my posting them here, but if anyone does have a problem with my circulating the pictures, please let me know and I'll take them down.

Thats a real nice looking hat! Reminds me some of the CEO I just got from
HatsDirect. Looks very similar except the CEO comes bashed. I also have the
Banjo Paterson and agree, it is a very nice hat as well. may have to try the Squatter for my next acquisition.

I've always been too chicken to bash my own hat.

I have a Banjo, a Flinders, and a Lawson. All of which are Heritage quality. Akubras really are great hats.

AkUBRA FEDORA

Just got my Fedora from Hatsdirect. Great hat, similiar (identical) to the Sydney in the US...soft felt and for $100 a very good hat. Ordered my Art Fawcett today as well!

Perfect Pair

I don't think I've ever seen a hat and jacket that paired any better than the one in your pic. Sweeeeeeet!

What color is that Squatter? Tell us about the leather jacket, as well.

The color of the hat is a bit darker than it looks in the photos. Fawn something or other. I got it from David Morgan.

The jacket is horsehide from Johnson Leather in S.F. Some custom sizing and minor pattern modification. I sent them the brown plaid cotton to use for a vintage-look lining. Alan there is a VERY nice person to deal with.

i've got the squatter dead in my sights, but i'm confused about the colors on the david morgan www site.

black is clearly black, but fawn and moonstone are ... dark brown and medium gray? hard to tell from the tiny pictures.

I would call the fawn (the one in my photos above) a "dark tan". How's that? It is darker than it looks in the photos that I took, which all look kind of washed out, which seems to be a pretty common occurrence when photographing hats.

sounds like the squatter fawn is somewhere between the fawn/tan color of my akubra banjo, and the brown of the federation. should be a nice color.

is the moonstone really blue, or more of a medium gray?
