Neeson's Hat in Seraphim Falls?

Can anyone identify what type of hat worn by Liam Neeson in Seraphim Falls? In my opinion,despite the wide brim, that cowboy hat is a bit like fedora...

The movie is not very good, though...

I didn't take that much notice of the hat, but I liked the first hour or so of the film..got a bit weird at the end though.

It looked like a variation on a homburg, something like what some of the characters wore on the HBO series Deadwood.
