Need some shoe / boot advice

Hello.
I am looking for my next pair of daily casual shoes. I am looking for something in a nice classic hiker style boot. I want something that is well made enough to hold up, a little rugged looking, but dressy enough to wear with Docker style Khaki's.

I've already had Alden 405's.

These caught my eye in chestnut or brown:

However, my wife dislikes them.
I also looked at these in dark brown:

I think they might be too rugged looking if I tried to wear them with khakis and a tweedish sportcoat. I also worried they would get too hot in summertime.
So I am asking all of you for recomendations on good footwear. Thank you all.

1911 man, I personally love those Arkansas boots you posted in chestnut. I just ordered a pair of Red Wing plain-toe Gentleman Travelers that look very similiar in design, they were 219.95 delivered but I'm not sure they're all that much better than the ones you posted really.

boots and shoes

dead stock Redwings are usually available on ebay and are great shoes. Is it me (yes, yes it probably is), but is anyone else bothered by the looks of the padding around the ankles of new shoes and boots? I'm sure it's very comfortable and a good idea but I can't bring myself to buy a pair of shoes or boots that have it.

Get some rough outs or service shoes from At The Front. Think they're too military? There's plenty of ad's in the late 40's - early 50's Esquire's for jump boots, sold to the average joe as being "perfect for outdoor wear". And they look great with khaki's!

Yes, I agree... and I prefer flat vintage style laces too with ankle boots.
