I am going to a party at the end of the month and need to look my best. I know it's shallow, but an ex will be there and I want to shine. The real dress will be in black, this is just tester. Does this look good on me or should I stick to a full skirt?

If I don't make this one, here's the one I will probably wear.

Okie dokie, brutal honesty dead ahead (but given with much admiration)

I don't think the first dress does anything for you as far as shape goes. I think it's the collar that kills it for me. It makes you rounder on top and doesn't flatter your awesome figure (read: boobs) either. In black it would seem dowdy or too somber to me as well, and don't get me wrong, I love a good black cocktail dress.

The floral dress is a knock out on you and makes you sparkle and shine (love the red hair too!). You look curvier and your waist is tiny in the floral dress. Much more flattering to your figure. I could see it with some killer red patent ankle straps and red clutch purse.

/end brutal honesty

I agree that the collar is the issue....sad to say...it lands at the widest- point of arms...making them look...erm wider then they are...

even in black it will land at that spot on arms..

If you can wear sleeveless then the 2nd one is great!

D....who has a fat arm complex for herself....cannot wear a sleeveless thing to save life

About the sleeveless thing: I agree that the collar cuts your arms at the widest point, I try to avoid that myself too. And, I think you have wonderful shoulders and I don't like the way the collar makes them slope and how it covers them up.

Thanks, ladies. Looking at the two dresses with your comments in mind, it makes it much clearer. You've been very helpful. I guess new isn't always better. Whenever I were the flowered dress, hubby can't keep his hands to himself. He's always kissing my shoulders. I guess that should tell me something.

I think the skirt part of the first dress is actually nice, I agree that the collar doesn't quite work. I think the skirt would be flattering with some kind of contrasting belt or band to emphasize the waist. I also think you would look amazing with a scoop or v neck :) With that said, you look amazing in the halter!

It might be just me, but I don't think that collar looks good with the thinner skirt. I do like the second dress. :)

Edit: Ooops, saw your post, went away, came back and replied without refreshing the page.

Yes! Sexy shoulders were the first thing I saw on dress #2. Give it more cleavage, too - if you got it, flaunt it! ;)

I removed the collar. I think it looks better, but still not sure about it.

I like the almost pencil skirt style of dress number one. But I like the halter top look of dress number two.

Too bad you can't make it in black satin or something, like one of those hot dresses Joan wears on MAD MEN.

Black satin was what I was planning on using. It is a pencil skirt.

If it's an ex you want to parade in front of......then put some deep darts in that pencil skirt a-la "I JUST SPRAYPAINTED THIS SKIRT ON HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?" style.

LOL

Seriously, show some figure! :D

I'm going to throw a monkey wrench into the works, but as a man I have to say that I like the first dress better, and with the original collar. The collar frames and draws attention to your neck and the top of your décolletage, and I think that I would find my thoughts wandering to memories of kisses that I had placed there, should I be the man fortunate enough to have such memories.

In black, and with compelling accents such as the right stockings, shoes, and jewelry, that dress would make me just exactly as over-heated as I am sure that you wish to make your ex.

However, this is just my opinion and you have said that your ex goes gaga over the floral print. That says to me that you cannot fail whichever way you go. The second dress is fun and flirty and the first dress in black satin would be all class and "you can't have... this." He doesn't stand a chance.
