Need advice on cleaning the lining of a jacket???

Well, several days ago I asked the forum advice on cleaning and conditioning a horsehide jacket. I would like to thank everyone who responded to the message thread and via PM as well.

Now I have another dilemma. How would I go about cleaning the lining of the jacket? Is there a safe way to clean the lining without shrinking it or damaging it? Should I just give it to a professional dry cleaner and ask what they could do? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way, the lining on both jackets I bought are NOT incredibly filthy. In any case, I would still like to clean them as best I can or professionally possible since I would like to add my own stains and history to the jacket!! ;) :p

Cheers,

Bruce

If it's not terribly filthy and they don't reek of that "old clothes" smell, I wouldn't bother with it. I bought a used leather jacket from a thrift store for $15 a while back. Pros wanted to charge me $50 to clean it! Forget that. I did some research online and was surprised to find that they suggested using mild soap like Dove and a clean cloth to clean it. I did that and also used a leather conditioner that I got at a shoe repair store. I still had trouble with the "old clothes" smell, it reeked! So I took some Arm/Hammer Room&Carpet Deodorizer (which is just baking soda with fragrance), filled the pockets, turned it inside out and put it in a garbage bag and poured some more in the bag and left it in a closet for a few weeks. Didn't intend to leave it in there that long, I just forgot about it. Pulled it out, vacuumed it off and no more smell!

As for the history of the stains, you're the only one who knows that they're not yours, so just make up some tall tales about them.
