I recently acquired this nice little number from a local antique store in my area. I talked the cashier into selling it for $28. When I asked her the history of this hat, she said it was from the '40's or '50's to the best of her knowledge. The top of the liner has a plastic covering which I thought was characteristic of later hats.

This Dobbs has a 2" snap brim with 5" crown. The ribbon isn't anything special and it's around 1 3/4". The hat size is 7 1/2 and fits my 7 3/8 head well.

The really great thing about this hat is that it looks almost brand new. There isn't a single mark, stain or hole anywhere on the hat. The sweatband is pliable, soft with no cracks or stains. The liner is immaculate. I imagine this hat sat in someone's attic forever before they sold it off to the antique store.

I've already forgotten all the threads I've read on this board so I have some questions for you all:

1. Can I rebash this hat? It's currently a diamond bash and I'm interested in getting a teardrop instead. What should I do?
2. From the pictures of the liner, can any of you determine how old this hat might be?
3. Did I get a pretty good deal at $28 for this hat? I think I did, but I'm not always the best judge when I really something.

Thanks guys!

It's a fine looking hat at a reasonable price. I'm no help as far as dating the hat. The most important aspect is that you like the hat. It appears to be in very good condition. Congratulations:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Yeah, in the picture it's more or less a center dent. I was fidgeting with the bash right before I took the picture so it's not quite anything, really. However, it has a natural tendecy to fall back into a diamond bash. I think I will work around with it dry for a while. What would I need to purchase to steam it? I've never seen a "hand steamer" before.
