hey all,
here are some photos of my new halfbelt in vintage brown fqhh, which i've had for a few weeks now. the lining is the macgillivray ancient hunting tartan. i love the jacket and wear it practically every day. quick question: there is some very deep wrinkling of the hide near the collar and i'm concerned of eventual wear through the hide at that point. is there cause for concern based on your experience? thanks for all your help.

You need to use a hosting facility - try www.photobucket.com. Free to register, then you an easily upload photos and then use the assigned code to post them here. Easier to figure out than it is for me to explain it here! ;)

Ok, you're on your way. Try imageshack.us or photobucket.com and post links to images between [ IMG ] link [ /IMG ] Remove spaces after and before brackets.

Just out of curiosity, when did you order your jacket? It's beautiful. Great lining choice!

Dang! I ordered mine January 26, and I still haven't received it. I'll definitely post pictures when it comes though.

Great looking jacket. The lining complements it really well. I see you opted not to have the shoulder yoke?

I may be wrong, but I got the impression from somewhere that different folks at Aero specialise in different types of jacket, so maybe the wait is longer for some models than others if the person who does that one has more on?

Edward,
I asked to omit the shoulder yoke for a simpler look. I also specified two back pleats at the outer edges like on the 50's halfbelt instead of the four pleat design you see on some of the 30's halfbelts, and I asked that it be the same length front and back. Other mods include double-leather cuffs and a leather strip along the bottom edge of the lining.

Very nice jacket!

I suppose that since you wear it every day, it is not too hot for San Francisco this time of year?

I, too, like the liner. How did you choose it? Unless I know exactly what I am looking for from Locharron (family name, etc.), I find it difficult to browse their website, due to the sheer number of patterns.

Philalethes,
It's been an unusually chill San Francisco June, with rain and temperatures in the 50's fahrenheit. In fact, it's been snowing in the Sierra Nevadas, the mountain range a few hours east of us. So, the jacket has been perfect. Regardless, San Francisco summers are notoriously cool and foggy.
I chose the MacGillivray Ancient Hunting Tartan by scrolling through Loch Carron's Reiver tartans one-by-one, a very long process, and saving links to ones I really liked. I had an idea of the color patterns I was hoping to find. From there, it was simply a process of elimination.

Ah, yes... I see what you mean. I like the detail of the yoke pattern myself, but I can see how a lot of folks would prefer a plainer, "cleaner" look without it, and the changes you mention to the pleats also. Doesn't that make the back the same as the (from memory) Cossack? I have the leather strip across the bottom of the lining in mine too - it's a nice modification. I didn't think of it when I ordered my Bootlegger, but it came on my halfbelt (I bought one that had been returned to Aero by a fellow Lounger - at a fair discount). My halfbelt has the standard, single thickness cuffs. I do have the leather-lined ones on my Bootlegger. One of the mods I asked for on my Bootlegger was the cuffs from the Thirties Halfbelt, and it came with the leather-lined version (I didn't know of this difference at the time). Both have their advantages: I like the flexibility of the single-layer standard version, but the leather-lined ones are definitely less likely to get grubby on the inside, or easier cleaned if they do.

The tartan linings are really nice. My Bootlegger is done with the Blair Modern (my mother's side of the family are Blairs). Eventually I want to get one of Aero's Buco style jackets based on the one Elvis wore - maybe I'll have it lined with the Presley tartan. ;)

zaman fu;
Congratulations on your purchase of the HB.............looks terrific!
My wife just got back from San Francisco last night and said she darn near froze and drowned! But it's a beautiful city.
I was stationed in the Army as a recruiter in San Francisco at 3rd and Market and later in South San Francisco. High cost of living but a great place.
Enjoy your jacket!

Regards, coffee
