What's your worst vintage hat nightmare?

Today I entered my favorite after lunch coffee source and joined
the line. As I stood there, a woman behind the counter stumbled
and dumped a strong, individually brewed coffee on the counter.
Too bad, I thought, not noticing that half the contents had been
propelled into the air. Coffee literally rained over me.

And my off-white 50s Mallory Stratoliner clone. Totally polka dot
with coffee.

I ran for the bathroom key. Only the womens' room was available. Too bad.
I dashed in and began wetting paper towels (glad they didn't have one
of those hot air dryers!). Daub-daub-daub-daub. Hat was soaking wet.

But I am delighted to report that as of this evening I cannot find a single
spot of coffee, or even a discolored bit (aside from two small stains
that were already on the hat). They made 'em right in those days.

The manager was more than understanding- my drink and snack were
free and I tried to refuse the $15 gift certificate. They assured me they
would pay for cleaning even if it meant shipping to Optimo. I work in a
posh town. I'll decide in the morning light, but I don't think it's going to
need a cleaning!

Wow, that could have been heartbreaking if it hadn't of come out. There are some stains that even Naptha can't get out. Glad that wasn't the case.
