Let me know your honest opinion please:

Looks rather South American/Argentina to me. I could see my self doing a few ochos y aperturas down Las Ramblas in that little number. Looking good Marc. So much for the studies eh!! Stick with the hatmaking!!

Thanks gents!

@Paddy: I finished my studies three years ago, so I don't have to worry that the hatmaking will cost me my graduation:)

I agree with Paddy. It has a Spanish look to it. The only drawback in my opinion is the height of the round (middle) part of the crown. I do not like it sticking that far above the sides. I am not sure I would feel comfortable in it.
I have a Penny's Marathon that has a similar shape. The two following links show the top and side view similar to Marc's photos.

On my hat the middle of the crown sits a bit lower that the sides.

Overall it is a nice piece of work.

I like the diamond block and the way it is echoed in
the bow. I like the reverse taper.
But I'd prefer to see a higher crown. The hat might
look better with a bound edge, too.

Very nice, though, and thanks for sharing it.

I am not a hat expert, but that looks like a criminal act. You can do better than that

Comments from the peanut gallery are not taken seriously. ;) Plus, rudeness will win you only a couple of friends.

That is very Australian looking to me as well. I also think it needs to be taller with the top of the crown not being taller than the outside of the crown. But, with that said, I have seen hats with a dome that was almost that tall inside the crown. But, I never liked them. Regards, Fedora

I did not want to be rude. But I still do not like that hat. Actualy it seems to me that that hat looked much better before it was shaped to this form.

But Qwerty, how can you tell how that hat looked before it was shaped to this form? How can you know what the crown's previous "bash" was? (Or are you saying that you prefer the hat with an open crown? In that case, it would look like a derby.)

I am afraid to say this becouse I am no expert like you guys, and I might be totaly wrong. This hat looks to me like tipical Indy fedora. Only with this one a owner decided to go wild. It seems to me that it was an open crown Abukra Federation, or something like that.

Isn't Marc (not Marc Chevalier) a hatter associated with Adventurebilt? If so, is it not reasonable to assume the hat began as a felt hood, like any other AB, and was finished and styled this way to satisfy a friend/client's request for something non-Indy?

I like the diamond crown very much, but the bump in the centre may be a little high. It does have a Spanish/Australian/Western/sun sheild look to it, because, I think, the brim is so wide. Just in terms of balance, to my eye, I'd like to see it trimmed, or the crown raised; the profile it has at the moment makes it appear to have melted, like the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz. Whatever you do, please keep that spruce-looking diamond pinch on top.

Marc (Kitter) makes the AB DELUXE which are made form even better quality than the regular very high quality beaver ABs.
And believe me when I tell you he defenetly is nuts about the Indy fedora!;)

Well, Marc, I like it. I mean, it's not "my kind of hat" but I see what's being done here. For the style of hat that it is, I think you did a good job on it. It doesn't look like a re-shaped Indy to me at all, and I agree that it has both a Spanish look and an Aussie look. Rugged outback meets latin pizzazz. :eusa_clap
