My Father's Jacket

This was my father's jacket. The label reads, "Guiterman Bros." My father was also born in St. Paul. It's 100% wool, which means I can't wear it, and it's quite worn and has a few small holes. According to my mother, he wore it while in the army - he was honorably discharged in 1955, and they were married in March of '56.

There are three buttons on each side, and button holes to match the top ones in the lapels (no buttons for the top lapel holes). Two more buttons on each sleeve (one missing from the left sleeve), but for decoration only.

Can you tell me anything more about it?

Looks a lot like a navy P coat, but of course it isn't. Is it really blue, or is that trick photography?
Doesn't look like regular issue,...was it private purchase instead?

It's black, and for that I'm guessing it was private purchase.

Why does it being 100% wool put a damper on wearing it?

I'm allergic to 100% wool. Makes me itch something awful. Even through a shirt. I've worn the jacket. Had to take it off within seconds.

I do okay with a wool blend, though.
