My Aero sizing woes = 44 Maxwell for sale...

So, I had for about a year a very nice size 42 Maxwell, which just felt a bit too tight in the chest and shoulders, especially for riding. Finally decided to trade it in for a size 44 Maxwell, and Denny at Aero was very accommodating and great to work with, gave me a fair trade value and put in an order for a 44. Well, the 44 arrived the other day, and I am sorry to say that it is far too big for me. Pit to Pit on the 42 was 22-23" and on the new 44 it is closer to 25". I suspect that my 42 was just a bit undersized, and that a different one might have worked for me. Ah well, the joys and vicissitudes of buying custom made online...

All of which is to say, the 44 (brown CXL, full action back, beautiful all around..) is now on sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested. Brand new, with tags, tried on once.

I had the exact same situation. I ordered the next larger size, and it was much too large. Just not proportionate sizing, in my experience. Finally got it sorted and everything now fits.

Funny you guys mention this. Carrie sold me a size 46 Maxwell in Italian HH that fits me perfectly. Most of the time, depending on the cut I order a 48 - 50. I see it's not unusual.

This is the main reason I haven't ordered a custom jacket online, I really feel like you have to get measured in person to get a truly custom fit.

This is the problem with sizing - it's always gonig to be difficult. I'm a fairly consistent size in an Aero - 42 in post-war patterns, 44 pre-war.... but even then there are the odd ones (I need a 46 in an M442a.... they were always a neater cut than an A2). This is where the difference between size and [/i]cut comes in.... Reality is that some shapes just won't suit all bodies; finding the right cut for an individual is as important as the right nominal size. Also depends how you want to wear a jacket, too - I'd have to go up a size again with my halfbelts if I wanted to wear them over a Winter sweater.

Bummer to wait for a new jacket and it not fit, though.... hopefully better luck with your next jacket, whatever it might be!
