Hi, I thought I would make a new thread about my FQHH J106 now that I am keeping it and at least Monitor is interested in it's progress. I will post updated photos here periodically.

After about three weeks of wear:

It is starting to crease up a little and soften a touch but this is going to be a long process. It hasn't rained since I had this jacket, I have been hoping to get a soaking on my bike to get things moving along. Might have to get the shower on it this weekend.

The progress is already visible, just don't give up, there's nothing as beautiful as a nicely broken in jacket. I never considered wearing FQHH in the rain to break it in as necessary and frankly I'm not sure it's good for the leather, but that's just the thinking of a nonexpert, so if the majority here recommends it, go ahead.

Rain is ideal for breaking in a jacket. Heavy, continuous and (preferably) freezing rain that batters the stuff into surrender. It certainly worked for me!

Yes I'll be getting plenty of nasty weather over the winter anyway. This jacket is my motorcycle jacket and I ride my motorcycle everyday, rain or shine (except maybe when there is a foot of snow and ice). It has no chance of being babied, my only fear is that I have started on a slippery slope of addiction now...

My experience is the break in is neither as long or as painful as some would have you believe...
Wear the jacket as much as possible....and it will be weeks...not months or years.

Beautiful jacket by the way!

The J106 is very nice, has anyone ever seen a Daytona in the wild? Is it slimmer or similar to this design?

Great stuff Gav, that's one of my all time favourite designs. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts after a few months of wear.

Agreed entirely, on all points! I'm a big proponent of the JWTDT approach (Just Wear The Damn Thing). With daily wear on the back of the MC, I don't imagine it'll take long to break in at all. Look forward to seeing how it progresses. :)

Good to see another big man here in the lounge. It looks absolutely nasty on you man. Well done! I don't ride so I don't wear that style jacket but it suits you to a tee. Thanks for the pics!

Phenomenal looking jacket, and even though Aero's version differs in some details from the original J-24, J106 looks as good or better as any Buco, RMC or I dunno what. Looks really, really great on you. I honestly don't think how you could improve on the fit. Keep us updated with new photos!

Holly explained it to me that other than the pocket config, Daytona is basically identical to the J106...

It's true. I've found that it takes approx. two weeks for any FQHH jacket to reach a fully wearable state, where I no longer notice the stiffness of the jacket. Even less if you wear it while riding a motorcycle. Or a bicycle.

Has anyone noticed the pre-break in break-in? When I first put on my HWM and looked in the mirror I'll be honest, I thought it looked pretty bad. Then about an hour of wear later it looked 100% better.

And nice J106.

I have yet to see a jacket that can match the ugliness of a brand new Vanson. But after just a few days of wear, the jacket becomes crazy beautiful.
