I think that's a fabulous outfit! I'm not planning on doing anything for the 4th this year, I get a reprieve (my husband likes to blow stuff up and goes a little crazy with the fireworks) So I think I might just chill on the front porch and watch the neighbors blow things up for a change lol. which means no special outfits! Although I did see a fireworks dress I was tempted to bid on but it had more damage than I was willing to repair. But you're going to look great!

Thank you. I have a red Kelly bag to go with it and a flag lapel pin. I am even trying to get the courage to wear my red hat with it. ;) Haven't put it all together yet so may be way much when I do. lol

I turned 50 this year, as well, and I agree with you, a certain feeling of independance comes along with it. Not that I have ever dressed with conformity: I have sewn my own clothes for the most part since high school.

I get the most comments on my "fancy" outfits (not that fancy really) from my daughter who wears black and more black. I love to wear skirts and dresses when the weather allows. Yesterday I wore a cotton print circular skirt as I walked around a landscape nursery shopping for shrubs. There were some surprised and pleased expressions from the male workers there when the wind picked up. I just know automatically to put my arms down when this happens.

This fourth of july we will be attending a wedding in our friends backyard. After living together for years they are finally getting married! This same couple has had a 4th barbeque every year for as long as I can remember, followed by a long walk up Munjoy Hill to watch the fireworks from the Eastern Prom out over Casco Bay (in Portland Maine)

This is a very casual, artsy crowd, I can't say any of them are into dressing vintage, but i'll just wear a pretty dress and have a good time.
