I'm trying to educate myself about the music of the Teens and Twenties and I know there are people here with extensive knowledge and experience in that area, so I'm hoping for some good suggestions on what and who I should check out.

What kind of music are you after? Popular music? Ragtime? Early hot/sweet jazz?

All of the above. I'm game for music hall, romances and symphonies as well. It's partly because I'm into those decades generally (and love ragtime) and partially because I've recently started writing about that era and the musical aspect is one of the things I need to learn more about.

Some of my favorites from the 1910-24 period.
Thank you!

Blossom Seely and Benny Davis (late 1920's "Vaude" team):

Joseph C. Smith's Orchestra, fantastically popular in the very late 'teens:

James Reese Europe, leading dance orchestra in New York before the Great War:

For vocal music, well, Amelita Galli-Curci. I don't believe that it was possible for her to make a bad record, at least until her operation:

Orchestral? well in the 'states the pickin's are rather slim, but the Philadelphia Orchestra's issues were always quite fine. Here is their first
recording, from 1917:

Their first electric issue, from '25, a disc which was used to demonstrate the superiority of the new recording:

Popular dance tube from Praha in 1923:

Earl Fuller's Famous Jazz Band, a 1917 New York group which was at the time the feature of the new Rector's "Lobster Palace".:

Charles Prince, the musical director for Columbia recorded some wonderful stuff, any records by Prince's Band or Princes Orchestra are worth a listen:

Then there is the "Coon" duo of Collins and Harlan:

Or Arthur Collins alone:

Lizzie beat me to it, but definitely Billy Murray for the 1900 - mid20s period.

Something Seems Tingle-Ingleing (1913)
Featured in the operetta High Jinks by Rudolf Friml. This is a much later recording (1963) but High Jinks was a very popular musical in 1913.
