I watched the 1944 Dick Powell classic last night on TCM for the upteenth time, but this time I noticed that both Powell and Otto Kruger wore pinky rings (although on opposite hands). Just a fashion statement? A bachelor thing?

Maybe they thought it woud protects them falling into those annoying pools of darkness that seemed to frequently open at your feet in the 40's. But then again, it didn't seem to help Powell...

I noticed in photo portraits of male stars in from the golden age that the actors often wore pinky rings even when I rarely saw them wear such rings otherwise.
That doesn't answer your question, but I thought it interesting.

I read somewhere that to wear a ring on one's little finger was a sign of misogyny. [huh] I'm not certain I'd agree with that but perhaps it is a confirmed bachelorhood thing?
