I saw "Being There" (1979) with Peter Sellers.
He wears a Homburg during the first part of the film.
Looked good.

Hey Rusty, how is it that, among all the fine lids Jimmy Stewart wore, you have picked, precisely, a couple of thin ribbons? Mmmmh... one would think you have some hidden agenda... :D :D

I know I posted these in Art's thread; nevertheless, I think they should go here too. Rorschach's hat has been an inspiration since then graphic novel and when I saw it in the movie...I had to have it.

I had to think about this question a bit before answering truthfully because I didn't start liking or wearing fedoras until I was in my late twenties. I have to say the first time a hat movie made an impression on me would during Miller's Crossing's opening credits... it was a powerful scene where the star was just the fedora blowing in the wind along the path in the woods.

nowadays I notice the hats more

After I started wearing fedoras regularly/daily [I don't leave the house with a cover now] whenever I watch a movie I will notice & admire the hats now! [huh]

I also notice fedora wearers on the streets I'm walking on too, whereas I never did before I started donning them.

It fits the shape of your face perfectly, at least judging by that photo of you.

Here's an example of a movie influencing contemporary hat styles. This is a 1940 Portis ad, the year His Girl Friday was released.

Movie Hats

Surprised (unless I overlooked it) that nobody (especially the narrow banders) didn't mention Robert Ryan's hat in "Bad Day at Black Rock." Great movie, too.

I saw the Hallmark movie "Durango" the other day. It's set in Ireland in about 1939-40.

Great selection of caps. I wish I could find some of the caps like ones depicted in the film. Really full cut caps, as full cut as some of the larger newsboys still around, but not of that particular pattern.

Harry Anderson in Night Court (I know its not a movie, but hey):

Now I'm gonna have to do a search and find out how many times this guy's name comes up on this site. I'd forgotten that another fellow at school and I were regular hat wearers about twenty years ago, when Night Court was still running and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade had just come out. Harry ( Anderson, not Ford...) was my buddy's big inspiration. I was playing "the days" back in my head the other day on the way home from work, and I remembered some really neat hats being featured on Night Court, and when Anderson did some of his magic routines on whatever specials I might have seen him on at the time. I wonder if I have to temper this with my memories being refracted through the rose colored lenses of time, or were they that cool. Have to do some surfing....

No, his hats, and the way he usually wore them, back on his head, were very cool, at least to me. I remember the same TV shows and how they (the hats) affected me.

My favorite movie hat is the one Grant wore in the opening scene of the Philadelphia Story. Hmm might have to talk to Art about recreating it!
