movie hats that inspired you...

I caught Kansas City (1996) on the Independant Film Channel (IFC).

The film did not overly impress me . . . but set in KC in the 1930s it had some great hats . . . and a good soundtrack to boot.

Anybody else catch it . . . or familiar with it?

I only read the reviews in Netflix which said the same thing as you. Add to that the fact that I can't stomach Harry Belafonte, I'll pass on it.

Rocky Marciano

I watched "Rocky Marciano" last night. It was a made-for-TV bio starring Jon Favreau. A decent movie mostly set in the late '40s and early 50's so there were lots of hats and some mobsters with some really sharp suits. And Joe Louis had some great outfits.

Mulholland Falls had some decent hats in it. Hats were a symbol of Nolte's hat squad.

My Grandad had some great hats, it probably started there, I started wearing a kangol cap at about 13 and wouldnt take it off. Watched the man from snowy river at 17 (i think) and bought my first fur felt of the same name, still have that hat. While out in a country town I had a guy ask if he can have one if my hat has pups! One of the nicest coments Ive had about my lids. Watched China town the other night, far out, Jack has some real nice fedoras, I love them hats!! My latest hat is an Akubra rap which is a pork pie made exclusivley for two stores here in Sydney, its a cool Akubra (aboriginal for head covering). Thanks for all the stories about hat heros.

I've always liked the prokpie that Cagney wore in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with the front snapped down. Also, William Powell in the "Thin Man" movies. And of course, Bogie in almost anything (not the "African Queen", great movie, fugly hat). Oh yeah, I love the high crown in Manny's pic of Cagney in "Public Enemy", but I'd pinch it.

The Green Hornet!

There were two movie (or rather T.V.) hats that inspired me as a lad. The first was the Green Hornet's. This was just about the spiffiest series in the history of the universe. It had everything:

The second hat that inspired me was Eddie Albert's tyrolean in Green Acres. Boy, that hat was far out! Unfortunately, I haven't got any photos of it.

All in all, I'm a stingy-brim fellow because these hats looked so cool on the little screen.

I had the Barbie sized doll and car set, and the Corgi car. Nah didn't like the Green Hornet at all...

The fashion sensibilities of the 1960's seem to be popular at the moment. You'd think the producers would want to do it as a period piece. Sort of "Rat Pack meets Superhero". It would be very nostalgic for a lot of us.

yeah....I was hoping that it might be more than just another "Super Hero" movie. Something serious with good acting taking precedence over action. More ....just more. maybe someone like Burt Lancaster or hey Johnny Depp wears hats....

William Powell, the best dressed man in Hollywood

I was watching an old movie on TV one evening, and all the hats just started popping out at me. From "The Kennel Murders"starring William Powell as detective Philo Vance, I offer this hat. I asked Art Fawcett to make it for me. It is a great hat. My only reservation is that Art didn't have the appropriate flange to make the back curl like the original. Otherwise, it's perfect.

My interest in fedoras and homburgs came from "The Godfather" movie series. From Fanucci's wide-brim to the hats of the late 50's-early 60's, a wide variety of styles were depicted. Another movie with great hats is "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre" about the Capone-Siegel vendetta. Sorry- no pictures; not enough posts!
