Around these parts, we see more Aussie style fedoras; those of the slightly tapered crown with thin leather bands in brown or green.

In old films, it seems the center-dent style seems pretty common. Gangsters in movies (and their PI heroes) seem to get the tear-drop (but I remember my grandfather calling it a "C-crown"). I think the center dent style strikes me as the most "average", but I can't back that up in any way shape or form. It's just a feeling.

In those old movies, I've seen every crown shape imaginable.
What always strikes me (and Matt Deckard too) is how unstudied the crowns looked. Even the most debonair movie heroes' fedoras had somewhat mashed-up crowns. Even the front pinches could be uneven.
