Fellow G-1 Jacket collectors,
I have a question on the brand of zipper that was used on the Monarch G-1's, circa 1950s. I recently bought a 1950s vintage Monarch G-1 that unfortunately has a small cut in the zipper tape (which I understand is very difficult to repair). I was looking to see if I could find a replacement for the entire zipper and noticed that the brand on the zipper is Talon, not Conmar. Were Talon brand zippers used on the Monarch G-1s and if so, does anyone know where I can find a NOS replacement? Thanks so much for your advice, counsel and time. I have included a photo of the original zipper where you can clearly see the Talon brand.
Cheers,

If you check out Dinermans dating zipper guide in the above ‘Guides Section’ you’ll see that the Talon stopper box on your jacket is from the 30’s or 40’s- hard to see exactly from your pic but it’s not a 50’s zipper. It’s possible that it’s original to the jacket if your jacket is an M422a from the 40’s rather than a G1 as you suggest? If it’s a G1 it could be a new old stock zipper, factory fitted or it may be a replacement fitted who knows when? Check the stitch holes in the leather that hold the zipper tape in place to see if any are present but have been missed by the machine needle during replacement. Ps this isn’t an exact science as a good machinist could have replaced the zipper using the original holes. You can get a replacement from Mash Japan or eBay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/372485171653
