i may end up picking up the black lamb version of this jacket as well. tried that on at Mister Freedom the other day and it's just gorgeous. Even thinner and softer than the natural one I own. I'd just have to figure out how I'd incorporate black leather into my wardrobe of mostly tan and brown shoes/boots.

Looks like you will need to buy some new black shoes and boots!

Konadog, you'll need a black pair of Road Champs :)
Honestly though, I'm amazed at how "fashion forward" these jackets look considering they are one of the 1st ever models. I dont want them to become "mass" hits and knocked off by everyone in the mall. Each maker has their own nuances. Mr. Freedom's is very cool, but definitely on the shorter/ flat front side. Thedi's are trim cut & with a front dip. Himel's is a masterpiece, but a wider/bulkier fit...Something for everyone ;)
The Himel in light deerskin is pretty spectacular too.

Nice looking jacket, I was tempted myself but @ 1,80m for a 36 (23" back) it seems too short for me.
How tall are you guys ?
I really like this raw/natural hide. It is like wearing a raw denim and see it evolve/fade.
It only gets better with age.

Agree. I'd want another 3 inches in back length.

It all depends on the rise of the trousers you are wearing. High rise, no problem with 23". Low rise, you'll need another 2" at least.

Ok I don't normally write reviews but I can't pass up doing so on this one. Further, this is by no means the first or most comprehensive overview of this particular model (John at VEB has done an incredibly thorough assessment of his, as I'm sure many of you already know), but I haven't been this excited for a jacket in a long while- and I've had my paws on a pretty sizable amount of jackets.

I was thankful to recently take possession of this lightly used Mister Freedom Campus Jacket. As a longtime fan of A1 style civvy jackets, I was was excited for this one from the day Christophe first started showing the prototype off in the interwebs a few years ago.

All I can say is wow. The fit, construction, details, just wow.

The jacket is made out of a 2-3oz veg tanned natural cowhide. It's unlined (which is what first attracted me to it), fitted with natural ivory cat eye buttons with pearly white French backing buttons, and has khaki corduroy cuff and collar facings.

The tagged sizing is a bit strange and the measurements are a bit deceiving.

This particular jacket is tagged sz 40 which in this model is considered a Large. It has a 22" pit to pit on the dot and the back measurement is just around 23" from the collar seam to base of hem. I would normally never get a jacket with these specs to fit at all comfortably on me but due to the low sitting collar and modestly wide arm hole openings, it's not tight or short in the slightest bit. In fact it may be my best fitting jacket at the moment.

And the hide. Love it and I think it's perfect for this style jacket. It's buttery soft yet sturdy and you can tell can stand up to abuse. It IS NOT for the person who fusses over scuffs and imperfections. You will go crazy if you can't handle a stain here or there (or everywhere!), as this hide is all but certain to mark up and look abused with normal wear. But that's the point.
(You won't find me eating a plate of wings or ribs while wearing it anytime soon though lol). And as far as wearability, it reminds me of a grab and go jacket similar to a denim jacket. Not sure if it's a result of the hide or the cut or both, but it wears much "easier" than the others in my heard. I can tell I'll be going to this jacket a lot more than others.

I am really looking forward to seeing this jacket evolve and gain its own character. And I would strongly recommend this jacket to anyone asking me about it.

Now for some pics

Good day, everyone. I must have read this post over a dozen of times this past year when I found myself sitting on the fence as to whether or not to fork over a grand for Mister Freedom's Campus Leather Jacket. Well, I finally pulled the trigger just last week and I must say that it has instantly become the front runner in my personal leather jacket collection.

From the very first moment I put it on I knew that I had made the right choice. Thank God that Christophe makes a 44 because it fits like a glove.....anything smaller would not have worked out. Having owned and collected many vintage leather jackets over the years, the most important factor for me has always been the craftsmanship and attention to the smallest of details. I have rarely seen another jacket that makes the absolute most of the materials as this one. Upon closer inspection I could see that a lot of thought went into it's creation. However, I can see that this jacket is not for everyone.

Having read most of the replies to the original post, I see that there are a handful of members that have less than glowing remarks to be made. Some feel that it is overpriced for the amount of material used...no lining, etc..others are opposed to the style of fit. Although I respect every opinion it is my contention that this jacket works best for those of us who have been cursed with a short torso, such as myself. I can see how it would look like a child's jacket on one who has a longer upper body....this is not to say that certain people of that stature can't pull it off as well. I just feel that it is much more visually appealing when worn on someone with a short upper body......and, with the collar turned up. Again, this is just one man's opinion.

In closing, I would guess that this jacket will eventually become a very sought after addition to the serious leather jacket collector lets say, 20 to 30 years from now. There is no doubt whatsoever that, with the proper care, it will age like a fine bottle of red wine. Mister Freedom has managed to take the overall look of a vintage cossack jacket, mix in some very fine and distinctive design elements and create a one of a kind classic leather jacket for the ages......re-inventing art! If you are on the fence, I say......PULL THE TRIGGER BEFORE THERE ARE NONE LEFT!!!

just bought one of these second hand (not this particular one) and think it's pretty amazing. with the warm LA weather, this definitely will get more wear than my Aero Bootlegger I have for sale. I think it fits pretty well and I lean toward tan shoes, so this should be quite versatile for me. Pics:

This is a fantastic jacket. I bought one earlier this year and put it through a rigorous break in regimen along with conditioning it with a number of different applications.....ranging from coconut oil to Bicks 4. It has also had many of outside tanning sessions throughout the spring and summer months. Lastly, I decided to take a big step and apply Fiebold's Russet Leather Dye. I could not be happier with the results. Check out the photos. Thanks!

I love that you decided to experiment with this jacket! This is what I think MF intended people to do. Make it your own. Well done.

Woah, that’s perhaps the most beautiful jacket I’ve ever seen. I would never stop wearing this. Perfect job on the evolution.

Perhaps I shouldn't say anything critical..but I just don't care for what appears to be darkened soiled areas over the base russet color of the jacket.
I much prefer a slightly darker brown hide with lighter brown or russet base color showing through in wear areas. Doesn't tend to look dirty but can acquire great character and rustic patina from my view.

I know this is an old thread but I'm fascinated by this jacket - and also the Levis/Einstein/Menlo Cossack. Mark Action's jacket pictured above is pretty amazing. I know its not for everyone but I'm a big fan of the self-aging idea, seems to make it very personal. My only issue is that I need the Five Star version :)

I decided it was time to pay some attention to my Mr Freedom jacket. I hate the anemic starting color, so I left it out in a sunny spot in my living room. I didn’t want to do anything more drastic than that (like conditioning it).

After about a week and a half, I can actually see some change. Now I just need to rotate it a bit!
