Miller Brothers?

I've had no luck searching the Lounge, or doing domain searching on google; does anyone have any information the quality of Miller Brothers Hats?

(I did find this obituary on the man who bought Resistol, Miller, and Stetson in 1984, '85, and '87, respectively: http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/VA-news/VA-Pilot/issues/1994/vp940806/08060148.htm)

Also, two questions on earlier posts that I am not able to find again:

1. Something about Stetsons/Stratoliners made in Canada?

2. Something about checkered or diamond pattern liners in Stetsons of a certain age? (not the racing checkered flag pattern)

Thanks,

- Mark

The Miller Brothers Hats,
Are Biltmore Hats they use Biltmore as a private label.

My first choice in factory hats is Akubra then Biltmore.

The Stetson hats from Canada were Biltmore also

I think they are nice, but spend more, and get 10 times the investiment

The Miller hats, ie. Millerhats.com, are usually Biltmore from Canada, as Sharpie pointed out. I have found them to be very good hats for the price.

The straws, are Bailey,Dobbs, or Stetson. Made out of China, or other places, with the rice straw, panabu, or whatever. Still, they look very nice, and are very usable and elegant.

However, if you are looking for a FELT hat, I STRONGLY suggest you see our own Lounge member/bartender ART. For about double and a half of the money, you will get a PURE beaver hat, which will last you YEARS. Don't apply false economy to a hat. Buy cheap shoes, your feet hurt, they look like do do, and you buy a new pair every year. Quality shoes last YEARS. Well, all that shows that a GREAT hat for not much more, is MONEY WELL SPENT.

Are they the same?

Are Miller Hats and Miller Brothers the same company? I've never seen anything about "Brothers" on their website.

Well, if they are the same; I rather like Millers, which are Biltmores. They aren't as good as Akubra, and far lesser hats than Art or Steve would make, BUT they are better than any modern Stetson I've found. I don't know how well a Miller would hold up to the rain and such, but for a stylish dress hat they are nice, and you get what you pay for pretty much. When it rains, I prefer my Akubra.

I wondered the same think, but think not, based on Miller Hats web site, the obituary I mentioned and the Biltmore connection

It sounds like someone combined the names of Peter Bros. and Miller Hats

I had seen a hat offered as "VINTAGE OLD MILLER BROS. WESTERN COWBOY HAT" described as "Open Road style". I was tempted until I double checked the size: 7 for my 7 5/8 noggin won't work.

Another that really caught my eye was a "Vintage Stetson... ...Standard Stratoliner, Made in Canada". If really equivalent to a Strat, it was very tempting, as it was exactly my size, 7 5/8.

My dream! (Did I mention, I'd also like to be driving an Aston Martin DB4 with beige leather seats?) I even feel a bit irresponsible considering buying an OR/Strat as a third or fourth hat. (I know, that's a completely foreign, unheard of concept in this joint. ;) ) So I must content myself with trying to get a good deal on those someday, then sending to Art for a reblock.

Thank you, Gents, for your help. I do appreciate it. (Gotta love this place!)
