I was wondering if anybody knows what fedora Stacy Keach wore in the Mike Hammer tv series?

It's hard to tell. A lot of the hats on TV and in the movies are custom made. I remember that series though. Can't tell if it was custom made for the series or if it was an actual hat brand. It could easily be replicated by a hatter, and there's plenty here on the Lounge.

There was one episode where his hat caught fire so he needed a new hat, but he just couldn't get it to work. So he throws it on the ground and a car runs over it. Then it's ok and he wears it.

Thanks guys. I agree it does look like an Akubra Stylemaster.
I remember that episode with the new hat!
I loved this show, and the books even more. It's a shame you can't find the 80's version of the show anywhere. I liked the version from the 90's too, but the one from the 80's was the best.

Where to a good Fedora in brown with 3.0" brim so it will work from Indiana Jones to Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart? Noir films and I want a Casablanca clone coat for a 6.4 , 270lb man.

Off the top of my head, and without a long wait:

Northwest Hats
Gannon.

Cheaper, but nowhere near as nice:

Agnoulita.

if you can accept a bit more brim then the Akubra Bushman is a nice production hat. You get a lot of hat for $140. If you like the thin ribbon look it’s hard to beat:

I'm a fan of noir films, myself. They're the inspiration for a lot of the hats that I convert.... there's a lot of awesome hats in those films.

One of my conversions. Gray Resistol Stagecoach...

4X Stetson Longhair Western that I converted last year. The 1 5/8 black ribbon and bow came off a vintage hat...

What's your favorite film noir movie? For me, "Murder My Sweet" with Dick Powell, (1945) and "Out of the Past" with Robert Mitchum, (1947).

Hi

Depending on your size, you may need to go to a cowboy weight hat, getting a 6 inch open crown and 3 inch brim in a dress felt ain't possible if I remember right. I asked Art Fawcett what the largest brim I could get with a 5.75 inch open crown was and he stated 2.75, 3 inches if it's a pastel. PERSONALLY I'd use a Western body, I don't mine the stiffness.

It all depends on the hat body. I have Winchester sourced dress weight fedoras in size 7 3/4 with a 3” brim and 6” crown, but most hat bodies are a bit too small for this. Of course, hat size makes a lot of difference to: it’s easier to get a large brim from a hat blocked to 6 3/4 and much harder if blocked to 7 3/4.

You can also go with FEPSA felt; Mikael at Hufvud said he could give me a 4” brim with a 6” crown in dress weight beaver!

Hi
I have an idea that you're right if Mikael does it, or Art does it, but not it just anybody does it. I think that some people do Western hat bodies so that they don't accidentally waste a beaver dress body trying to stretch it.

I have a similar hat being made by Gannon right now. He had to go through several hat bodies to find one large enough.

Aside from a custom, someone can buy a donor western hat and have it cut down and restyled into a fedora. This is a 3X Resistol that VS made into a fedora for me:

The brim is just over 3” and all told with the donor hat and the work by VS I’m into it for less than $200. The felt is western weight, but it’s much mellower and softer than new Winchester western felt. Just an idea @WildBill203
