I have all the issues except number 2, as it is extremely easy to get here in the UK. It is very, very high quality. The photos and content are superb, my only complaint is that I wish there was a bit more text.

The first issue featured topless girls done in extremely tasteful photo shoots, but they quashed that and now there is very minimal 'girlage' in the mags, and none are topless. A solid magazine that is sure to increase in quality and value over the years.

And forget about finding the first two issues, not gonna happen. Not even the editor Syd Schaffer has any left!

Sort of, but you forgot surfing, skate, aviation, 30s-60s styles, interiors, architecture, the lot! Free and Easy (the Japanese magazine) is much more kin to the workwear thread on here.

Yes. Well, the issue 4 had a focus on motorbikes instead of surfing and skating. I am not so minterested in motorbikes, but it doesn't matter. The Japanese Magazine is in english, too? Well I think the best thing about Mens file is, that I can buy it in the bookstore at the train station. When I have to wait there it is nice to have a good mag at hand. Compare it with what you get there usually and it is really far out!

I only once bought an issue of GQ because I had to wait some hours at the airport. It was so boring and the men's fashion is so ugly...I want my 3 euros back. I rather talk to myself and look into the mirror for the 3 hours. More inspirational.

Just picked up issue no. 4. They don't stock it on every magazine shelf around here but I am glad to have found it.
I am really looking forward to the cycles and leathergear.

Hmmm. That decision could have come from either end of their potential reader spectrum - those who don't care to see topless women in a magazine or those who don't care to see any women. It could also have been industry-driven - don't want to be seen as just another lad mag.

Anyway, more power to anyone starting a paper magazine these days. It has to have a niche and appeal strongly to that niche, and apparently they're doing it.

I just ordered the latest issue based on Herringbone Kid's recommendation in the "Show us what you've made" thread.
$11 isn't unreasonable at all, as I've paid much more than that for Japanese mags that I can't even read.
Any stand out back issues that I should hunt down?

Number 3: Tweed and Navy
Articles about: Rin Tanaka, RRL, Liberty Motor Wear,Jeff Decker, Nigel Cabourn, Architercture in Miami and Bloomsbury...
Shootings on a vintage sailboat (Navy styles) in the mountains (tweed)


Number 4: Motorcycle and Leather
see title...but also articles and shootings about demob suits,penny farthings, preppy style and a vintage bugatti

Number 5: The pioneer spirit
Article about the Ralph Lauren ranch (western style mostly), an amy johnson inspired aviation shooting, shorter faetures about surfing, the tweed run ...


I think all of them are cool but I was a bit disappointed of the Ralph Lauren ranch in the last issue. Anyway, there are always many small features about the usual topics: workwear, biking, old cars and other machines, leather jackets, army&navy inspired clothes, portraits of artist with a vintage vibe and other stuff. So you can savely pick up any issue and always find something that might interest you.

i have issues 2, 4 and 6.

issue 2 has a nice vintage cricket themed shoot. what Flo said: you can't really go wrong with any issue.

the magazine used to have more tasteful vintage pin-up style photography than it does currently.

Two Types and i are working on an article (to be confirmed) about the history of Oxford Bags for the next issue which will be out in January 2013.

Just finally recieved issue 7 and I love it!! Certainly not as intense or vast as the Japanese mags, but great fun just the same!
