The gentleman in the panama hat and DB waistcoat and bow tie looked fine and I also noticed that on several men their trouser cuffs were quite wide-almost vintage height. All the rest are the usual fodder of sartorial straw men; fire when ready gentlemen!

If you've got working cuffs, make em work...

Incidentally, why is there no UK version of this? Why is the British fashion press mired in a self-parodying 'edgy' limbo rather than cheering on stylish chaps?

What a bunch of disasters. The three things that struck me as I watched this were:

I love the Seinfeld tennis-shoes-with-a-tie look. I guess if you look like you should be in The Strokes (like the guy in the white satin suit), then it's OK.

The working cuff thing is getting really old. I suppose the next look will be a jacket with a plexi-glass window to display full canvassing.

Lastly, I don't think I've ever seen a knot bigger than that glowing blue one.

In any case, the clip isn't worth taking as seriously as we're doing. A sartorial fluff piece with some moments of genuine perception, nothing more.

.

Really? I've never seen fluff from Cunningham. He's out there daily, looking for trends & has many interesting observations on what people are ACTUALLY wearing on the streets, not what the designers are trying to sell.

his autobio:

His latest on the inauguration:

The amount of full length fur coats in the inauguration piece is amazing. I haven't seen that many outside of a 1920's photograph. I guess PETA's invitation got lost in the mail.

Intreresting. Some of the looks I like, but some I can't believe he would approve of.

Guy in white pants and black jacket looks awful. Looks too small. Guy in striped suits, looks good except the pants are too low to be pleated and worn with this suit style. Nice fabric though.

Black guy looks good. like the guy with red suede shoes.

Skinny guy in slim suit with low cut pants looks okay but the tie is too short and wide to work. Looks awful. Guy in lavander tie that is tied too loose looks good except for the tie.

Some things, no matter how creative, just look bad to the eye, as far as I am concerned.

Sartorialist seems to be more concerned with his flattering portraiture.
Cunningham often takes pix of folks in midstride. They breeze by him often wondering who the old man is. Cunningham doesnt care if his shot isnt perfect as long as he has documented the garments. He's like a birdwatcher in the park chasing sparrows.

Actually I liked the Sartorialist's shot of Cunningham last fall.

Sure, because more often than not the subject is an industry player. And the accompanying copy is something you'd pay Burson Marsteller for.
