This just won. It is beat up and in need of a good cleaning but It may be a gem in waiting.

Feraud, I won't know till I see it how far gone it is.

Feltfan, I would love to see your hat. I imagine it is in better shap than this one.

You beat me out for it . . . I could not get to a computer to put in a last ditch bid, or I woulda . . .

But I hope it turns out great for you . . . Be interested to see the final results.

Thank you very ,very much Feltfan, I am pleased I made the right call, Beaten up or not the hat should be cool. Depending on how bad it is I may just leave it as is.

Looks like the Mallory Knokabout is a cousin to the Stetson Playboy, judging from the photos, true? Very similar ribbon treatment (which I think looks great), designed with no liner (as with earlier Playboys), lightweight.

Feltfan, it's hard to tell from your photos, but what is the edge treatment on your Knokabout? How 'bout on yours, Douglas?

Cheers,
JTL

The edge seems to be bound although the seller did say there is some fraying. I am enjoying the linerless hats these days.

If I recall correctly, the Playboy went through a few
changes over the years.

My Nokabout has a narrow underwelt.

FeltFan, you are correct it is a Nokabout. The felt is very light and it has the smallest brim edging I have seen yet. It does have some fraying so I don't know if I will be able to keep it if it can't be repaired. My Grand father used to wear one just like this one. I will get some pics soon. It definitely needs to be cleaned.

The brim treatment is stitching not a ribbon.I understand why it would fray after years of use.

It is absolutely beautiful Dinerman and it will probobly make it close to impossible to repair or to clean thoroughly.
