Madonna's Art Deco Apartment

BinkieBaumont

Rude Once Too Often
Madonna (Madge to her husband and close friends) adores Art Deco, so who better to decorate her Upper east side apartment, than her brother Chris (he's a fanatic of Deco too) he was given 10 days and (probably) an unlimited budget. I love her colection of Tamara De Lempickas, some how, I dont think they are digital prints, although they do say she is rather stingy. I'll let you read all about it here

Nice combination of the Deco style and modern features. The only really vintage thing about my flat to date has been the quasi-Victorian sense of sheer clutter. lol Currently having a vintage-inspired kitchen fitted. Slowly, I intend to remake the rest of the flat over in a more classically inspired style.

I tend to agree that that place is a little "hotel" for my taste, but very lovely nonetheless. I imagine it looks a little more lived in when it isn't prepped for a photoshoot.

Although I HATE those purple velvet chairs. UGH!

The place looks too sterile and showroom-ish for my tastes.
Where are the human touches? The coffee table books look like they have never been opened.

Probably the pictures are limited edition lithographs. Tamara De Lempiska's grand-daughter has licensed them to a high end gallery here in SF. I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna had bought one of the real paintings (she can afford to) but I doubt she could get all of them.
Not my idea of art deco - I see a few nice pieces, but i don't care for the entire effect. Hate that blue and white rug, too...

Does the painting above the fireplace remind anyone else of the painting above Indy's fireplace in Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Sincerely,

I LOVE the purple chairs actually..!! :)

Each to their own eh!! But I think the deep richness of that majestic (or madgejestic!!) colour is wonderful and works so well with the blacks & whites. The kitchen is Uber Modern - but, as someone who loves to be in the kitchen I can see 'why' she makes a concession here.
It's REALLY well done :eusa_clap And only looks 'perfect' because it is a professional photo shoot (you don't see professional models in their old slipper and a piece of spinach between their teeth ;) ), so everything is 'made up' perfectly for the camera.

Right - just waiting for an invite to go over to Madge's for a cup of Joe now!!:D

I looked out of curiosity. Overall too sterile for me. I did like the hallway, the chair by the fireplace, and the bathroom, though. My own home is pretty eclectic and most times it looks at least a little lived in.

Nice peek into what real money can do.

Overall, not my style of Art Deco but I do rather like the purple, lilac and beige rug.

We have just bought an Epstein bedroom suite. Proper furniture at last! I hope we'll progress onto a dining room suite in the not too distant future.

The dining room looks awful, imo. But love the color combinations, the very regal purple velvet against the deep brown of the furniture. This purple is actually a madonna/virgin mary purple, her cloak very often has this color in late antique and medieval portrayals since this was a very expensive color. The white easy chair by the fireplace is really beautiful too, and look at that bathroom, especially the archway in the bathroom.

Of course it does look very sterile and uninhabited, but yeah, it's made up for a photoshoot... I bet it's a really nice space to be in.
