Hi gents,

Any experience with replacement waistband knits from Larry over at Flightjacketknits?
Particularly the single ply M422a type.

Mr Steve Sellers from Headwindmfg is making me an M422a and I am vacillating between ‘authenticity’ and ‘longevity’.
‘Authenticity’, being the std single ply M422a waist knit and the ‘longevity’ being the A-2/ later G-1 double layer waistband.

I have a set of the A-2 replacement knit, and its very good, but do I want this on my M422a?
Then again, would the single ply stretch out and loose shape?

Thoughts?

I have an original 1963 Irvin B. Foster MIL-J-7823B G-1 that I bought from John Chapman awhile back, and as far as I can determine the knits are original as well. Although I understand where you are coming from with double layer waistband over single layer, for a M422-A personally I would go with ‘authenticity’ over ‘longevity’.

They stretched out slightly ... hardly noticeably.
When you put on a jacket this is imperceptible.
Yours will be new ...I see no reason to worry with single-layer.

The WWII Bogen & Tenenbaum AN-6552 had a 2-ply waistband like the A-2. However most manufacturers of the M-422a made the jacket with the single-ply rib-and-rack waistband.
