Three things to remember

1. Colors on computers are notoriously different than reality.
2. From everything I've heard and read, your head will be in heaven when a Mike Gannon is riding on it
3. Once it's up there, you may see a bit of the brim, but I doubt if you see enough to see unwelcomed contrasts with what your wearing.

Exactly! Rule number one (at least for me) for ordering a custom hat over the internet: Never trust the colors on your computer screen, even if someone tells you they are accurate. The color setting in your computer may different; and no color looks the same in different lighting situations. I've started asking for swatches of felt and/or ribbon if I'm not sure how they will look.

Long ago I worked with some graphic designers. They swore the colors of high end Macintoshes were much truer than anything else. They also introduced me to the "official" colors, like Alice Blue, named after TR's daughter, and the different computer codes. They knew what the colors looked like in reality so they were less dependent on what they saw on the screen than we would be.

There are two things different with real materials, e.g. felt and grosgrain, is they are not a single color. One hair of felt may have different hues to it. The other is texture. As light hits the material the reflections and refractions provide additional hues. That's why swatches are so important.

Yes, I now have a complete set of Winchester swatches. Another thing to consider is the finished hat is much lighter than the swatches. The pouncing process lightens the colour of the felt. But having swatches is the only way to really have an idea of what the finished colour will look like.

Yes sir! I have one Batsakes and three Gannons. I'd say quality is comparable. They both know their hats, but Gus Miller is wrapping up his storied career (60+ years in the business) whereas Michael Gannon is just starting out. I'm proud to own hats by both these guys.

That's why when I decided to wear hats I told Favorite Wife I was getting one made by gus immediately. Waiting would be wrong!

That said, and with respect to this thread, Michael of one of the early Go-Tos for a bespoke...and since I have a large size/odd shape (7 5/8 XLO) I'm not one to spend most of my hat funds on production jobs that are priced near what it costs to get one from Michael, or as we should refer to him, "Mr Gannon, Sir!"

Blue's coming sometime late week. Yes da blues are a'coming.

Hat details; For some time I have been in the que for a Gannon fedora. A debate raged in my mind about the whiskey/bone/blue felts. I picked out like colored felts and wore them around to see if they "were me." Or perhaps the "new me." A month ago I received the message from Michaet that I should make a decision. Wow - decisions. I have admired Jeff, Bowlerman's, Bobby Blue(VS hats) http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/what-hat-are-you-wearing-today.19520/page-5954#post-2183661, Chamuco's blue http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/m-c-gannon-hat-company.83744/page-72#post-2166655 and Davids Blue Strat-inspired Gannon http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/what-hat-are-you-wearing-today.19520/page-5769#post-2170554 from the pics on the forum. Lovely hats that draw the eyes attention to the blue, gorgeous dimensions and workmanship. It took me wearing about my vintage blue homburgs, blue Stratoliner and blue Lee around to convince me I could work blue.

For me the mid-ribbon has been working well. It is the "Town and Country" in-between. The mid-ribbon hats I have are the go to lids when I just pick a hat out and head out for the day. Now details - blue/chacoal/red ribbon and binding or EVEN others. Decisions.... Mr.Gannon was kind enough to provide some working pics to assist. His opinion was that the charcoal was subtle and worked as well as the blue ribbon binding was perfect to push me of the indecision bench. My decision - charcoal. subtle and less conspicuous. CharcoaI so that it offers eye appeal and stands proudly against the blue. In order to make the hat coordinate with more attire of mine I asked for the whole "meal deal" - charcoal ribbon/windcord/binding artisan work by Michael.

Michaels outdoor shots are very telling. I really appreciate those vs. an easy inside shot. The natural lighting provides details in the nuances of the colors. BTW: I appreciate that Michael is showing some grass. Keen. I remember what that looks like.

Monday Morning Blues!

I will be channeling the blues all week. I will pull out a guitar the evening and run thru some acoustic blues. Mississippi John Hurts song, above will be the first of many.
