Luxire recently introduced silk pocket squares, printed in a design of your choice, to their range of products.

I thought I'd give it a go.

There was only one image I really wanted: a painting by Italian aviation artist Tullio Crali, 'Incuneandosi nell'abitato (In tuffo sulla città)' (1939)

When I ordered it there were problems over the image size. I was unable to find a digital image with sufficiently high resolution, hence the image isn't as clear as it should have been. If anyone else thinks of ordering one, I would recommend taking care to find the highest resolution image you can possibly find.
But I think the idea of reproducing images on pocket squares is a rather good one.

The first time i saw that painting i was amazed. It was part of an exhibition 'Art and Power' (all about propaganda art of the mid-20th century). I saw it again at an exhibition of Italian aviation art. Something just grabbed me when i saw it. I wish i could buy a high quality print of it and fill up a large wall space somewhere in the house.

Thought I would post the image.
Oh an When searching for the image your pocket square pictures are part of the large image hit.:)

Tullio_Crali

I think edge detail is very important in pocket squares. As the edges of the square are the parts one sees.

Nice detail, and a conversation piece too. I like that image a lot. Others I quite fancy are American Gothic, Hunt's Light of the World, Nighthawks, The Scream. Not sure if all of those are out of copyright, though. I assume they're only doing images which are out of copyright or in which the buyer owns the copyright?

Excellent choice, TT.
I might commission some squares myself later this season.
There are few (very few, in fact) good sources for the classic pocket square designs and even less sources for more ornamental designs (Rubinacci does them). It's great to have the custom option that Luxire provides.

The complicated, ornamental designs as well as suitable paintings make excellent pocket squares. Do you folks have any more suggestions for artists?

I was thinking of M.C. Escher first, because of the (partial) symmetry. Also Nepalese thangkas, for similar reasons. Escher drawings would be mainly black/grey and white, but that's still a tried-and-true combination for pocket sqaures despite the limitations. The thangkas could be very colorful or more sombre.
