Lounge shirt, yea or nay?

This is a modern uniform shirt of some kind but has some vintage features. But I can't seem to decide whether it's more 1930s or 1970s looking.

I'm trying for something like the 'Hollywood' look in the same spirit as these guys:

So, what say you? Will it look good paired with contrasting trousers, an ascot, black/white spectators or white bucks and a Panama? Or should I pass on it?

It's a much darker blue than the photos show, almost black.

Has pockets and zipper placement similar to this jacket:

Belted and pleated back (yoke is dark because I wetted it):

Opinions wanted.

I have a question about the beige jacket you have. I have a very similar version in green. Do you have any pictures of the back. Is it a half-belt by chance?

Personally, I'm not a fan of this type of 30's style. It wouldn't work for my, but hey, try it out.

Hmmm, well the picture of the guy on the left in the powder blue, he screams retiree to me. His out fit reminds me of one particular semi retired man I work with (I have no idea why he is not retired all the way, but he is such a firecracker). This is the sort of outfit he wears to work everyday that he works. This might have been the standard type of uniform for electricians when he was younger, I believe he is in his 80s.

It's looking more 70s and not 30s/40s to me. Sort of like the jumpsuit/coveralls our next-door neighbor wore in the late 60s/early 70s while working on his various muscle cars. They were from the 50s...he was in his 70s....so something of a lounge-lizard look, in the scary way.

But ThunderW21, you do vintage so well in so many areas...IMHO, this may be the foul ball in your string of homeruns.

"Uniform" is what it suggest to my eye too.... maybe a workshirt uniform of some sort?

Is the zip-fastening a later affectation, or is that something that would have been common in loungewear of the 30s / 40s?

Thanks for the comments, I have mixed feelings about it and the comments here have helped cement down that something isn't 'right' about it.

I'm just kicking it around as something to work on in my boredom, something different to try. Would removing the zipper and adding buttons help remove the 'uniformness'?

Maybe I should become a barber.
