Egads, that is some CHEESY production music they slathered over that aircheck.

I guess you have to do something to keep the stupider viewers excited when all you have is b&w footage, bad audio, and stills.

Neat story - but it's sure got the grubby fingerprints of a fanatical subculture all over it...

I had never heard the UFO angle on this beforelol .

Isn't there a big shin-dig in LA to commemorate this every year?

Hmmmm . . . isn't that Timothy Dalton crawling over the top of the "craft" with Bill Campbell in his Rocketeer outfit in hot pursuit? Yeah, and there's the Griffith Observatory in the background. It was all staged by Disney!

It certainly wasn't part of Operation Fu-Go's incendiary balloons since they didn't commence till November 1944. Also no I-boat (Japanese sub) existed at the time that was able to launch a seaplane. That came later.

This story has been de-evolved into the chasm where stories that were once filled with a modicum of truth go. Stories like this get ridiculed on one side and over analysed by skeptical debunkers on the other till they are just lame jokes.

Does make one wonder why the USAF 5 years later would purposely say weather balloon debris was a actually the remains of an alien disc. I mean it wasn't even April 1st!

The weather balloon spin was never applied during the time following the event, only later in retrospect such as 1947 and on. The government had nothing to cover up in 1942 so there was no disinformation campaign to ridicule witnesses to strange aerial events.

From 1947 on the weather balloon dodge was a Godsend because there were actually lots of weather balloons launched every day. So the bottom line, even when facts and accounts didn't fit the balloon scenario, was that it was a weather balloon and that was that.

The weather balloon explanation covered lots of black projects later with a simple probability.

yea, I was being a bit sarcastic in my comment...It obviously was not a Balloon , too witnesses saw how large it was. It was obviously not a plane either as it moved to slow.

whatever it was , it was Huge...and it simply cruised over the LA basin unobstructed by our Military barrage of fire....

This event was the inspiration for that classic movie 1941.

Check this forum about a year back, there was a thread on the same topic.

Yes, funny movie...

The event they have every year in San Pedro is actually really fun, and they do a wonderful Job.

I only started the thread because of this event and it's just hysterical that people honestly believe it was the Japanese...
