Frequently here I see people mention that a certain original price on a vintage hat dates the hat to the 1930s or whatever. I'm curious too, as I've just bought a very nice fedora which the seller said was 1950s, and which has a price tag on $7.50 on it. Is there a lookup table, here or elsewhere, rough or not, with hat prices by decade?
Oh, I know each manufacturer had a range of prices, from entry level hat to finest quality, as we have with cars today. But say you've got a mid-level hat. Is there a resource where, if you know the price, you can get an idea of its age? Or is that knowledge something you expert collectors have gleaned over the years?
