Looking for suit

I just bought a suit the other day. It is a modern suit. It looks really nice. I first started out looking for a fedora to go with it, and came across this board.

Now, I really want a vintage suit! 1930's or 40's would be nice! I like them alot, as I was browsing the "show us your suit" thread.

Where do you come across these suits? When you buy one, are many modifications needed to make it fit? Are they hard to come by?

I want one now! They look terrific!

Thrift stores, junk/antique shops, vintage clothing stores (online and offline), estate sales, EBAY!

Depends. Some fit great, others need some work. Always get careful measurements from a seller. And know what your measurements are so you can make a judgement as to the fit

Are they hard to come by?

Not particularly, if you know what you're looking for. All depends on what your size is. If you're big (44 and above) or small (36 and below), you're going to find it more difficult than if you're average sized (38-42). Inseam is also an issue for particularly tall men trying to find vintage to fit. there also seems to be an issue about where you are in the country. The midwest is a goldmine of high quality vintage clobber. The coasts are pretty much picked to death, and everything that remains is extremely expensive.

A addition to Mr. Baron's post, the costs can get expensive depending on the item and it's value. You can be lucky enough to find a suit that fits you and at a price that is fairly reasonable. It could range from $5-$400. It's all a matter of the right place at the right time.
