Looking for quality leather field jacket

Hoping to get some input from those who know! Im trying to find a quality leather field jacket in goat or mid-weight HH, or even good steerhide, but all I'm finding in the 4-pocket style is pure crap! Best I can find are COOPER M-65 or THE DENIRO JACKET from Magnoli, but I can't tell the quality of the hides, or even what they are made of. I'm looking for a back on the jacket to be like the Aero LHB.

Any loungers have any sources for such a jacket (size 46-48, even used or military surplus) in a brown? Looking for something in the $500-600 range limit, but would like to see some reputable companies. Don't want thickly quilted stuff, just nice beatable drill linings or similar. Thanks in advance!

Leather not usually used for field jackets

Leather not usually used for field jackets, but you can get a similar 4 pocket deal from various makers. One I know of is Lewis Leathers Roadmaster, designed for weather protection with field jacket storage configuration. Lewis Leathers hides are chrome tanned cow and are the best of any cow available, from the hand of the leather to the durability and finish. You can't go wrong with it unless you simply don't like the style. Field Jacket is usually made of cotton or cotton nylon blend, made for the militaries or for expedition type usage. You may want to narrow your search some by telling us how you want it to look or where have you seen one.

Thanks for the tip. Basically I want a 3/4 length (or longer than waist length) jacket, cowhide or goat, with 4 patch pockets on front (similar to cooper M-65) except normal turn-ver collar. Half-belt waist prefered, or inner drawstring will work too. I'll check Lewis, or I may just bite the bullet and have one custom built.

Here's a basic idea, I would like an A-2 type collar and front zipper (no snaps). the pockets ideally would be A-2 style patch pockets. A nice supple goatskin would wear nicely. canvas or duck is nice, wears through rather quickly. I wouldn't use the leather coat for the farm chores, just bumming around. In reality, now that I think of it, it would be almost a longer, 4 pocket version of an INDY jacket, with a classic half-belt back.

Cooper

Years ago Cooper made a seal brown goatskin M65. At the time I passed on a super sweet deal and I mean sweeeeet. I passed on it and reget it now. But the Cooper M65 was decent. I have seen them on ebay every now and then.

close.........

Thanks for the pics! Would work, BUT I hate flaps with no patch pocket! Yes, I'm a picky sort.

I've decide that I'm going to have Fishmeok (Mark) at SUPERIOR FLIGHT APPAREL make me "THE perfect jacket." That way I can get axactly as I like and I'm assured of the quality, leather, measurements, etc.

Not a hard one

Many bike jacket makers do a jacket like this - it's a standard touring design.

Magnoli does one in a lighter, more fashionable style- based on the jacket Robert DeNiro wore as a bounty hunter in a forgettable film.

DeNiro Jacket

I have seen that jacket on the Magnoli site, but all the coats of his that I have seen (granted only 3) have been lighter weight leather than what I'm looking for, but the design is the closest I've seen yet, Thanks!
