Saw this the other day. You're gonna love it or hate it depending on who you are. For most Die Hard fans all that needs to be said is that it is the latest incarnation in the franchise and they'll show up. Like the James Bond series you don't care what the storyline is ahead of time you simply want to see how the lead actor is going to get himself out of a pickle. Bruce Willis once again finds himself in a bad situation at the wrong time. As Detective John McClane he's a regular non-super hero guy. He uses his police skills and tenacity instead of super strength like Swartzanegger would play.
This time he's caught up in a cyberterrorist bent on closing down the nation's computer infrastructure. Of course like McClane's previous opponents they simply want $$ leaving any purist motives for another movie.
The kid from the Mac TV commercial has more screen time than anyone else so I suppose he's a co-star even though I have no idea what his name is. Ironically he plays a PC computer geek/hacker/code writer.
There's a legion of stuntpeople and CGI in this flick. The action is on high setting for 2 hours of the 2 hr 10 min run time. Look there's no complicated character layers intwined with emotional or romantic sludge of any kind. The good guys are the good guys and the bad guys are bad. There's no confusing sub-plot or relationship entendre to complicate your attention from the screen. Its straighforward bad guys with singular goal and John McClane as the fly in the ointment.
Willis, as before, slowly gets tattered, disheveled and bloodied to a level that make you wince in vicarious pain. But as usual he takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Wait till you see how he takes out the main villian at the end!
If you want to lose all track of time and just frolic in pure escapist action in a vehicle of today's generation of sound, stunts, CGI and visual impact then this is your kind of movie. If you'd rather see Hugh Grant giggling and skipping throught the tulips John McClane is gonna rock your little world.
