Linen suit w/ double breasted waistcoat?

I've been thinking about getting a new summer suit, since my summer wardrobe is pretty thin. I've even gotten material, a heavy (somewhere around 16oz) Irish linen that's just the right amount of cream. I took what was left on the bolt, which will certainly be enough for trousers and jacket, but if there's enough I'd like to have a waistcoat as well. I'm thinking like the gent below:

Single breasted, 3 button, peak lapels, with the db waistcoat. The only difference is I'd want flaps on the pockets. Of course, this is only if I have enough.

The above pic is the only precedent I have for a db waistcoat (I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be linen, I've just assumed it is). Does anyone know of any other examples?

I think this might be my favourite suit ever...

That weight of linen with a waistcoat might be a little hot for the summer...

Agreed, but I can always leave the waistcoat at home during the dog days. If this summer was anything like last, it'll be cool enough for most of it. I should say, it may be 14oz and not 16, but I'm not positive, and the jacket will be skeleton lined.

It sounds just right to me, stylistically. The only other material that suit could be made of in my mind is white flannel - whether that'd be too hot for modern tastes is another question entirely. If anything I'm envious, not critical!

Good luck with the suit, either way!

I would imagine that unless it was an incredibly loose weave, a 16 Oz linen might defeat the purpose?

I'll let you know ;)

I'll also take an accurate measurement and figure out the exact weight. Either way linen will wear cooler than my heavy wool suits. And if it turns out to be too warm to wear during high summer it'll make a good spring suit. That would also leave a convenient hole to fill in my wardrobe with another linen suit. Preferably a double breasted with belt back and patch pockets...

The theory now is that the heavy weight linens are cooler and crush less. Have a look at the Palm Beach thread for some great suit ideas.
