Rather nice (and fairly rare these days):

Another one that ended without anyone bidding on it. At £84, I thought someone might sneak in at the last moment. I certainly think it was worth that price.

I guess the ironing mark on the rear of the trousers had its adverse effect, too.
Also the low set 4x1 DB remains the probably least desired jacket configuration (undeservedly - but that´s my impression).

But yes, that ironing mark would be seriously problematic. Also the very bad remnants of the stitch holes of the original rear seam. the trousers are essentially unwearable

Although both the stitch holes and the iron marks would be hidden whilst wearing the jacket.

Yes. Necessitating the jacket to be always worn … odd for a summer suit.

A wearable-on-their-own pair of trousers is, to me, critical for a summer suit. It's unfortunate (because I love everything else about it), but for the wearer it means the suit is only worth the cost of the jacket, if you see what I mean. And in that size any more than £30 or so is pushing it for an odd DB, especially a 4x1.

It's also a colour that might prove difficult to combine with the kind of success one would seek. A plain white would be easier. The pink - especially such a subtle shade - introduces the same difficulties I find with most pastel odd jackets. Baby blue is easy - contrast with green. Baby, almost white, pink? Tougher.

Baby blue and green? I gotta see that in person to decide if I like it.
Pink doesn't seem that hard. For ties a dark red or navy blue would easily work. Not more pastels. For combining it with odd trousers I would just choose white, I guess.

It works well with various shades of green. but some not so good. As an example I have lying around (no full costume shots, though) here are green buttons on my 1930s/40s bably blue sportscoat:

Ok, for the shades in the picture it works. I wouldn't call it a no brainer, though. Often blues and green clash... and then they leave even less room for other colors.

30 inch waist for a 36 chest is normal.

Yeah, sounds about right to me. When I was eighteen, I had a 28" waist and wore a 38" jacket, and I was definitely considered markedly borad-shouldered for my size. (Alas, while the shoulders filled out to a fit a 44 and occasionally even a 46, the gut didn't quite stay in that sort of proportion...).

(I don't find pink difficult to wear;))

You're not an Oxford man, of course...

I'm the one who picked up this suit. It arrived yesterday. I'm pretty certain it's silk. Its fits pretty well. When I put my bid in I hadn't seen the previous discussion on this thread and hadn't noticed the iron mark on the seat of the trousers. Looking at it in real life i cant say it's massively noticable from the outside. The quality of the make is fantastic. All the seams are hand felled to hide the raw edge. So much handwork throughout. The lable in the inbreast pocket says Shaik Sillar 'High Class Tailors' Callcutta. I'm pretty impressed with it to be honest. :)

I'm hoping to get some photos of it along with some other recent purchase soon.
