Light Gray Hats

In the movies and in pictures, I tend to see lighter hats with dark suits. I was going for the look and now I've finally found a light gray hat. It's a Penney's Marathon. 2 1/2" bound-edge brim, with a contrasting blue-gray ribbon.

That's a nice lid. I got one of a similar color a couple days ago. Very versatile. Having a darker band makes it work with darker suits and the light color of the hat makes it work with light suits.

I was thinking you might look better with a slightly smaller brim but, after I looked at the side views, I think it looks fine.

Those marathons are very nice. That's the first with a wide ribbon I've seen in my very limited experience.

The grays have it , dove.

My favorite hat color is the light or dove gray with the black ribbon. Sometimes a bit darker (I have a vintage Resistol in blue-gray with black ribbon). These hats go very well with most suits, exp. dark navy blue, the quintessential business suit. They also compliment the gray suits perfectly.

I wear my brown's, and green hats with "casual wear" such as work shirts, dockers and a jacket, etc. Perfect for those upcoming (hooray) Autum days.

Thanks. I saw a Knapp-felt ad the other day, and I was trying to go for that look in the crown.
I think I've settled that 2 1/2 inches is my dress-felt look. Anything larger than that is an Indy hat.

Light Grey Dobbs

I also really like the look of a light grey fedora with a black ribbon.

I have a nice Dobbs that my Aunt found in an antique store. Fits me perfectly too but it has moth holes in it! :cry:

Dark suits with light colored hats with dark bands were all the rage in the 20's and 30's! I really like that look my self and feel it looks really nice. A white or light gray hat with a black ribbon looks so sharp with a black or dark blue suit! Such a classic look! It's not just for gangsters!

The wide brim looks good on you bud! Wide brims are king!
