Interesting pic.

Even though George and Lenny are down on their luck hobos, they still wear a hat and tie.

I would love to see a top notch high quality remake of this movie.
But who would do it? Who would act, (properly) in it?

Thanks for showing the photo. One thing that amazes me about old photographs are the men in hats. Everyone wears one. Even the down and outers. It is really something.

Speaking of the movie & a remake, has anyone seen the 90's version with Gary Sinise and John Malkovitch? I wasn't too fond of Malkovitch's Lenny but thought the rest of the film was good. Sadly I have not seen the original (Meredith & Chaney) version in too long!

Actually, there was a good version of 'Mice And Men' which starred Gary Senise and John Malcovich. But I do like the John Goodman/Billy Bob Thorton casting pitch.
And I, too, have been impressed by the dash and flare of men in suits and fedoras as they stood in Depression era soup lines. Or sat in the bleachers at Ebbetts Field. Or strolled the old seaside boardwalks on a hot summer evening. The present age has lost much. Among other things a sense of propriety. Thank goodness we have the Lounge, a curtain to draw back and peer...at how it once was.

Hi Major

Please tell me that you've only seen the 1939 film with Lon Chaney as Lenny - or one of the made for TV version ( 1970 & 1981 ) because I can't see the 1992 film starring Gary Sinise as George and the amazingly talented John Malkovich as Lenny being bettered to be honest, but that's just my opinion and someone is bound to disagree

Colin

BTW Lenny definitely would have worn a cap - as in this film !!

Respectfully Disagreeing

Malkovich played a very credible Lennie, the glint of looming extermination always in his eyes. I like Gary Senise in anything.
He's underestimated in a way Chris Cooper and David Strathairn used to be.
