Leather Sweatband Cracking UP

I just noticed that the sweatband on my Open Road is cracking up and starting to tear away.

What can I treat it with that won't bleed through to the felt?

How 'bout Neatsfoot Oil, if I let it dry good before folding it back in?

Neatsfoot oil can harden leather. What you need is a leather conditioner.

Many collectors including myself like Pecards. This stuff works wonders.

Like was said earlier, dried out leather cannot be cured but it can be delayed for awhile. I think Pecards does the best job of this.

I would NOT use neetsfoot oil, it will darken the leather and yes I have known of it to harden. I am not familiar with Pecards, but I do use a light coating of baby oil on stiff hat leathers from time to time. Just remember to use sparingly, any oils will go a long way.

Baby Oil is clear. Neatsfoot has a brownish tinge.

I'm thinking Baby Oil right now, with some newspaper to soak up the bleed.

Oil does attract dirt.
