I got this recently and apart from the sleeves needing an inch off it fits great, the tag says made in India and I don't think it has that much age to it ? but it does have a definite vintage 'feel'
It's well made and the leather(goat?) is pretty thick and it's almost as heavy as my Swedish fur collared blanket lined military coat.

Interesting coat, and it looks like goat to me. Better suited for your English winters than a wool peacoat. What type of lining does it have.

I have been thinking of getting a coat like this one. Just need to find one at the right price.

Could it be buffalo? underneath the collar looks like it.

Peacoat if you want something not a million miles from that but in black have a google for feuerwehr lederjacke or in grey look for feldjäger lederjacke.

There is a conman trying to sell one on ebay as a u boat jacket for $500 at the moment which I post a link to just to give you a good idea of the feuerwehr type...you can also get them without the handwarmers, cuff tabs and halfbelt. in your size you should be able to find one from germany for less than 100 euros and as they are issued gear they are secondhand you wouldn't have to pay duty on them....all I need is to find one in a 46 and I will be happy but a 42 should be easy enough to find.http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-ORIGINAL-GERMAN-KRIEGSMARINE-U-BOAT-LEATHER-JACKET-/120785591997?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1f61debd

I have a link to a listing for a grey one of the plainer type on german ebay if you are interested but that would just be to get an idea of the look as well as it is not your size.
Regards Tony

Thanks, yes I am looking for a black one. I occasionally go on ebay to see what is there. Didn't think about German ebay. Good idea. If you run across one, probably in a 44 as the issued ones are a little tighter, please let me know.

India is where many leather jackets come from and that thick leather looks to me to be the same as that used by Wilson's in the 90's for their M. Julian range - often made in India. Goat is a common hide used in India since most of it comes from Pakistan which is "next door". And, perhaps, because the cow is sacred. I think Magnoli has some of his leather garments made in India too, as do many fashion brands.
