Lapels and Pants width

Ignoring decades and their corresponding styles for a minute I would like to say something. I personally like wide lapels and wide-leg pants and all that, but sometimes I think suits should be designed with proportion in mind.
1. I think skinny lapels on big fat guys look atrocious. Like their clothes are too small.
2. Opposite applies:When tall, skinny guys(like myself) wear a jacket with huge lapels and really wide pants it looks like a kid who's wearing their Dads clothes.

Any comments?

You are right, and through the decades proportions of the era were tossed aside for the liking of the individual buying the suit or the tailor.

Wider legs work well on some guys though can at times make you look like an elephant. Same goes with wider lapels and big heads... bigger shoulders help with the big head.

Every particular physique will benefit from certain suit proportions over others. And, the differences are often relatively subtle.
