In the past year or two, GW, BK, US Authentic, LW, ELC and now Langlitz have all raised prices. An increase in the cost (and limited supply?) of the raw materials (leather) must affect all the manufacturers in some way.

Yes but, taking the availability of cowhide into account, Langlitz was extremely pricey to begin with, so what is it exactly that warrants another price increase? I genuinely am curious, not trying to start anything.

Supply and demand I guess, and what the market will bear. They've still got a 2 month wait, and they sell a bunch of jackets in Japan for 3-4 times what they go for the in US I believe. The last increase was in 2012, maybe it is due to increases in costs of materials, maybe not. They are a business after all.

As a reference point, a Columbia cost $90 in 1974, and approximately $1050 today (no add-ons or mods).

Here's the government's CPI calculator - http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl.

Apparently, $90 in 1974 is equivalent to $430 in 2014. Since leather jackets are going up much quicker than the rate of inflation it'd be financially irresponsible not to buy one now if you have the cash sitting in a savings account earning nothing.

I'll try that one on my wife this evening. Wish me luck.

I bought my Columbia March of last year. In March of 2013 when I was in Langlitz purchasing the jacket, John told me at that time that the prices on jackets were about to jump the following weekend. Out the door, my 10 pocket padded Columbia with belt came to $1,400.00.

Now... wishing I had gotten a padded cascade or sidewinder instead, I stopped into Langlitz on my way thru Portland a couple weeks ago to see what I could get towards a trade-in. Let's just say I walked back out with the same jacket I walked in with. Not begrudging the folks at Langlitz, I guess I just thought with the jacket being in like new condition just over a year old, would be worth more than what was offered as trade. I like the jacket, just want a different cut.
