It's Knit Your Bit time again - the WWII Museum has released its 2009 pattern and it looks like another fun one:

http://www.nationalww2museum.org/calendar/knit-your-bit.html

You can donate all year round, and make this year's pattern or past patterns. I participate ever year and they could really use scarves for our veterans.

"You can help the Museum honor WWII veterans by Knitting Your Bit - in this case a simple, but cozy, scarf to be donated to a veteran in a Veterans Center somewhere in the United States."

Miss Neecerie - I am glad you want to participate!

C-dot - I am sure they would love donations from anywhere - I checked the FAQ and it wasn't specific, but as long as you mail them to the address, I'm sure they won't mind where the scarf came from.

thank you both :)

Inky that's so lovely! I just posted the link on our WW2 website. The USA helped the UK out with 'Bundles for Britain' so it would be nice if some of the UK gals could knit their bit in return.
We meet so many lovely US veterans who come over for a 'last look' at the country they came to, flew from and their friends died in defence of.

Oh how neat! What a lovely idea. I wish I knew how to knit. Maybe it's time for me to have my aunt teach me how. Then I can make some scarves for knit your bit!

Awh - I wish I knew how to do a pattern. I have no clue. I may have to use this as an excuse to sit down and attempt one. I'm pretty great if I just have to purl a whole scarf. :)

Kitty - thank you for reposting the link! is the Bundles for Britain an ongoing thing?

Christy and Shirt - I re-read the FAQ and you don't even have to use their patterns so a simple knitted or purled scarf would be great, I am sure!

"Does my scarf have to follow the pattern?

The pattern is merely a reference. Some prefer knitting on the pattern, and others will enjoy varying their stitches and such. Feel free to create. You have two patterns to choose from the three-stripe and the V for victory, but again, it’s only a suggestion. I’ll gladly distribute your scarves, no matter what they look like!"

"Can I use other yarn?

You may use any yarn, any color. Please keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of scarves will go to male vets when you are choosing your yarn."

Hi Inky,
the Bundles for Britain started in 1940 as the American response to shortages here in the UK.
We have some items, sleeping bags, blankets and baby clothes that have little labels on 'Bundles for Britain' and some even say where the item was donated. The many Britons who were bombed out in big cities like Hull, near me really appreciated the kindness of the USA and indeed you even sent us Tea wagons! (Staffed by British Volunteers) to help in relief of blitzed towns and cities.
We're commemorating the start of WW2 here this week, in 1939.

Sorry to hijack!:eek:fftopic: lol

I looked through the FAQ section and I didn't notice a question on "What if my scarf looks like a small child knitted it? Will it still be accepted?" lol

I am just starting to learn how to knit and sew so I don't think my skills will be sharp enough to get a nice looking scarf done soon.

But this project is so great, I might have to put my learning at top priority. Let's hope I can get one done by the Christmas season ladies. ;)

I think it would be a wonderful Christmas present. Who cares how professional it looks, as long as its made with love? :)
