Ok, I watched King Kong the other day (the 2005 remake) and absolutely fell in love with Naomi Watt's hair -

and here (the bottom one) -

A dear "friend" told me it was possible to get this look with rag rollers - however when I tried I looked much more like a certain well known actress from Good Ship Lollipop.

Is it possible to use rag rollers and not look like Shirley Temple? I need help!

PS - sorry about the picture size - I haven't got the hang of resizing them - EDIT - woah, that top one is even bigger than I thought - how do I resize it?

Hi Annie and welcome to the board. Try looking through this thread, there are lots of tips there. You could also do a search on "rags", specify to search for posts in stead of threads.

I don't think you can resize the photo by using the lounge tools, you just need to find one that is smaller or resize it on your computer and them upload it to your flickr or whatever.

The main thing is to brush a lot after you take your rags out, and the same goes for pin curls. That makes them into beautiful waves in stead of small sausage curls.

For that particular do I would actually also just use curlers in stead of rags, it looks like a very easy hot curler set. But if you sleep in them, the rags would make the curls hold longer.

Ok, I'll have to set up a flikr account and I'll sort out the photo size. Thanks:)

Really? Brush them? I always thought that if you tried to brush curls they'd look terrible. Do you have to keep brushing them past the frizzy stage? Or do you brush each ringlet individually to make it softer?

I feel very ignorant. I'll read through that thread, thanks!

I forgot to mention that you should use a natural bristle brush because it's very soft and won't take out the curl. You keep brushing them until they get smooth. Sometimes I brush each ringlet individually, sometimes all together, depends on what look you want. If you brush each ringlet every curl will be more defined, if you brush it together, it will become a smooth wavy mass. Take a look at this from my flickr, if you click forward, you will see the stages of this do, starting with the finished result. Pin curls are a frizzy mess before they are brushed smooth.

Thanks, that's amazing! You're hair looks great in those photos. I always get to the stage of brushing where it turns into a frizzy mess and then panic and re-wash it. If only I'd stuck with it...

I'll try it again and see how it goes. Thanks!
