LOOK WHAT I FOUND
P-38.jpg

Your fair dinkum pacific theatre "trench art" P-38 ashtray, probably postwar but a nice piece of chromed brass I think, I haven't seen one in over 20 years.
One prop blade is missing , *#+!!, but at $10, I can live with it. I'll hunt around to see if anyone can fix it, it also needs resoldering at the join of the stand, but hey, is it nice or what!

Nice piece of trench art. I have one that was made by my father when he was with the 13th Air Force during WWII. It is a P-38 that was made from 30 and 50 caliber bullets and sheet brass. It is not an ash tray but is a nice little model of a great fighter. I use it for my 13th Air Force traveling display. I plan to give it to my oldest brother for Christmas. He is having a real hard time with our father's passing and I think that he would like to have something from our dad's WWII days. I plan to have it mounted on a plaque and have a plate with the insription of:

Created by: Asa McDonald Russ, Jr.
13th "Jungle" Air Force
1943-1946

I think it will help him a little. My father and I was able to have closure that my brother and him were not able to have.

That's really neat. I've never seen anything like that before. Where'd you pick it up?
At my local op-shop, or thrift shop I think you guys call them, always keep an eye out I say!
These things were quite common when I was a kid, then they just seemed to vanish from people's homes, maybe as everybody gave up smoking, and are now highly prized by militaria guys. But they are rare, and go for 100's of bux on occasion.

Lovely piece of trench-art!

Lovely find! I have one that belonged to my uncle who was in the RAF during WWII. It's of a Halifax bomber, but it's currently in safe keeping with his lawyers along with some other estate items. Will look great on my desk.
